Common Cold

This is the most frequent infection in all age groups due to virus infection and is highly contagious.

Symptoms

Sequence of appearance of symptoms usually is :
General lack of sense of well being followed by a burning sensation in nose with discomfort sneezing, nose block, clear nasal discharge, low grade fever, chilliness, and later Hoarseness, sore throat, dry cough and a yellow cloudy discharge from the nose.
Loss of appetite.
Lack of energy.
Muscle pai are all accompanying symptoms.

Do's and Dont's

Avoid contact with infected people.
Avoid using or sharing personal belongings with them like towels, beverages, silver ware.
Avoid food such as - dairy products like milk, paneer, cheese, eggs & sugar.
Avoid spicy food.
Drink plenty of fluids.
Take raw fruit and vegetable diet including garlic and onions, which help to reduce catarrh.
Chicken soup is good for people suffering from cold.
Lemon juice and Vitamin C in large doses may do some good in colds.
Steam inhalations helps to decongest the nose block due to cold.
Take it atleast 3 times a day.
Take warm water gargles to soothen your throat.
Stop smoking and ingestion of alcohol.
Do get fresh air - take a gentle walk as soon as you feel able to walk.
Do not cook while you are having cold.
Regular moderate exercise, yoga, meditation help to build up your immune system thus also helps to relieve stress & depression.
Antibiotics should not be taken as they are of no use in a viral infection.
